Iga Swiatek a eu du mal à se qualifier pour le 2e tour de l'US Open. La numéro 1 mondial a joué un match de qualité très moyenne (30 coups gagnants pour 41 fautes directes) pour se faire de Kamilla Rakhimova (9 coups gagnants/24 fautes directes. Elle s'est imposée en près de 2 heures et 2 manches (6-4, 7-6[6]) en sauvant notamment 3 balles de 2e set consécutives.

La Polonaise affrontera, au 2e tour, la surprenante Japonaise Ena Shibahara, 217e mondiale à 26 ans.
